What is the UPG?

The Urban Playground was the world’s first
purpose-built & tourable environment for the practice and
performance of Parkour and parkour-inspired dance.

In 2005 The Brighton & Hove Arts Commission funded Prodigal Theatre in creating what appeared in 2006 as the UPG. In July 2009 the UPG Team with Crawley Borough Council and local enthusiastes proudly opened the UK's first permanent, free, outdoor Parkour Training Area (PKTA) as part of the Bewbush regeneration scheme.

Situated opposite Stevenage Rd on Breezehurst Drive, Crawley, the PKTA is waiting for you - and is floodlit until 10pm. The Team is currently working with local authorities and parkour-communities to create further unique sites in Rugby and in Lancing.

With the creation of the performance "THE NEXT LEVEL" in May 2010 comes the UPG MKII - a refined UPG in silver scaffold which extends from the van in which it tours - a mobile parkour paradise of infinite possibilities; hundreds of environments in one.

The UPG is a place - both physical and metaphorical - in which enthusiasts of all ages and abilities have the right to come together and develop their own unique style of movement.
